GEISER GRAND HOTEL BAKER CITY, Baker City – A Smart Stay in the City
About the Hotel
Historic Elegance
The Geiser Grand Hotel is located at the corner of Main and Washington in Baker City. This National Historic Landmark features ornate mahogany columns, crystal chandeliers, and the West’s largest stained-glass ceiling. Sunset Magazine calls it 'the finest hotel between Salt Lake and Seattle.' The hotel received The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Honor Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation.
Rooms with Views
All 30 rooms are individually furnished with premium bedding, 24-hour room service, and laptop-friendly workspaces. Many rooms have 10-foot-tall windows overlooking the Wallowa and Blue Mountains or Baker City’s historic streetscape. The Cupola Suite includes a king bed, private dining room, and museum-quality antiques. Some rooms feature fireplaces and sleeper sofas.
Dining Under Glass
The 1889 Café serves breakfast and dinner under the stained-glass ceiling in Palm Court. Chef Brandon prepares regional dishes like herb-crusted rack of lamb and Pacific Northwest salmon. The bar offers local microbrews, small-batch bourbon, and mixology classes on Thursdays. Fodor’s Travel Guide calls it 'Baker City’s finest restaurant.'
Outdoor Adventures
The hotel is a gateway to Hells Canyon, with jet boat excursions and white-water rafting on the Snake River. Nearby lakes offer waterskiing and swimming. In winter, Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort provides skiing and snowmobiling. The staff can arrange guided hikes, cycling, and visits to ghost towns or the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.

Guest Ratings & Reviews
My stay at the hotel was fantastic! The rooms were large with 20' ceilings, preserving the charming 'old west' look. I loved my room facing the street; it was fabulous, clean, and incredibly comfortable. The service was kind and courteous, making me feel right at home. The location was perfect for exploring Baker City, ideal for a stroll around downtown. The dining experience in the 1889 Café was delicious, a huge shoutout to the staff for their excellent service! The facilities were top-notch, enhancing my overall experience.
I had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The rooms were large and the bathroom was elegant, though a bit drab. The service was lovely and comfortable, with friendly staff eager to share the hotel's history. The location was great, especially for the Bike rally I attended. The dining experience was delicious, but there were some areas for improvement. Overall, a pleasant stay with a mix of positives and negatives.
The hotel had a spacious and clean room with a huge chandelier and high ceilings, but lacked historical charm. The service was friendly and helpful, despite being short-staffed in the mornings. Its great location was convenient for various activities, and the dining experience was decent. Overall, a comfortable stay with a few minor drawbacks.
